In the summer of 2024, I made the leap start a literary blog dedicated to book reviews and lifestyle content. If you are interested in my lukewarm opinions about contemporary fiction, check it out! The name was inspired by the "oyster girl" lip gloss from MAC cosmetics.

If you have not noticed yet, I tend to gravitate lonesome protagonists who, through their desire to belong somewhere, get pulled into an eclectic journey of tragedy and despair. “The Girls” by Emma Cline is no exception to this rule. The late 60s and early 70s west coast vibe really leaps off the page in this piece, making for an addicting read. Even in its fantastical elements, the character of Evie Boyd exudes an early teenage rawness that you cannot help but cringe at. Even in her awkward moments, your heart breaks for the life she could have had if she never met Suzanne. If you are interested in the mid-century communal rockstar lifestyle, then this might be the book you need to read.
